Medical specialty that deals with the trauma of the musculoskeletal apparatus. In Brazil the specialties are unified, receiving the name of "Orthopedics and Traumatology".
SHOULDER AND SHOULDER SURGERY
Specialization in shoulder and elbow surgery has become more complex in recent decades due to the advancement of specialty surgeries that present a greater learning curve, especially arthroscopies and arthroplasties (prostheses).
An orthopedic doctor who specializes in shoulder and elbow training has a fellow in orthopedics and traumatology, three-years medical formation, and another year in shoulder and elbow surgery fellow at an accredited institution.
After this training, the doctor may apply for admission to the Brazilian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SBCOC), being considered a specialist in the shoulder and elbow if approved.
Specialists in shoulder and elbow specialists also have training in trauma surgeries, in the treatment of shoulder and elbow fractures and in the sequelae or complications of such fractures, including fractures of the humerus, clavicle, scapula, fractures and elbow dislocations.
